Al Jazeera reported early Monday, Mizan 19, local time, that Mitri made the remarks in an interview with the outlet.

According to the report, the Lebanese government has asked Tehran to appoint a new ambassador following the expulsion of Iran's previous envoy to the country.

In March, Lebanon revoked the Iranian ambassador's credentials and declared him persona non grata, citing Tehran's “violation of diplomatic norms.”

Lebanon provided no further details, but the decision came as Iran stepped up attacks on its neighbors in the Persian Gulf.
